People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the procedure of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is frequently uncomfortable and may carry risks if not conducted in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehab facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services generally include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and making certain the individual is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detox services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any issues are handled as quickly and safely as possible.
