Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can adequately oversee and provide medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services usually include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the particular person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can provide detoxification services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any difficulties are handled as quickly and safely as possible.
