- Sudden cessation after prolonged use or abuse of high doses of central nervous system depressants can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms.
- One study in a state prison found that prisoners who participated in a drug rehab program and continued to receive treatment in a work-release program after prison were 70 percent less likely than nonparticipants to return to drug use and be re-arrested.
- OxyContin was developed and patented in 1996 and was originally prescribed in 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg tablets although in 2000 a 160 mg tablet became available.
- The acetaminophen component in Lortab can on its own cause a fatal overdose. High doses of acetaminophen can cause liver damage, and dosages should never exceed 4000 mg a day. Acetaminophen is metabolized solely by the liver, so there is a risk of fatal overdose due to hepatotoxicity when Lortab is mixed with alcohol.
DUI/DWI Offenders - ColdenDrinking and driving, or driving while under the influence are serious offenses not to be taken lightly. While each state has its own way of handling DUI/DWI offenders, there are some generalities that can be expected. Depending on the level of the driver's intoxication and how strict the state laws are, they may have to serve a jail sentence for their offense. Once this is accomplished they will probably have additional retribution to do in order to drive a vehicle again. Many states require the person to undergo counseling and/or therapy to aid in their recovery process. Often these counseling sessions are held in a group setting by either an addiction recovery professional or a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. The state will determine a set number of counseling hours that the DUI/DWI offender will need to attend.
