While in treatment they handle their problems with drug and/or alcohol addiction while studying how to go about their life without turning to substances to resolve their difficulties. When the client has finished their residential short-term treatment, they frequently continue their recovery process by going into outpatient treatment, attending meetings, therapy or counseling.
