Cowen - Gays and Lesbians

Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drugs and alcohol have the option of attending a drug rehab center that is specifically intended for gays or lesbians. Making the decision to go to one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only deal with their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
