Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the choice of attending a drug rehab center that is specially designed for gays or lesbians. Making the decision to attend one of these programs is a great first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only address their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal issues they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
