Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the option of attending a drug treatment facility that is specifically designed for them. Making the decision to go to one of these programs is a great first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only deal with their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal issues they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment examine how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with isolation, shame, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
