People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the procedure of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is often uncomfortable and may hold risks if not conducted in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can properly oversee and supply medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services usually include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can offer detox services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make certain that any problems are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
