Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the choice of going to a drug rehabilitation center that is specifically intended for gays or lesbians. Making the decision to attend one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only address their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery examine how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and be able to live happily without the desire to use drugs.
