Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may carry risks if not performed in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can effectively oversee and supply medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services typically include insuring the individual is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detox process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehab facility which can provide detox services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any complications are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
