Individuals who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is frequently uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and present medical supervision for individuals who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services generally include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some kind of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can offer detoxification services, the individual will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any problems are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
