People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can appropriately oversee and provide medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services typically include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the person is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can provide detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any complications are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
