Individuals who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being eradicated from one's system, which is often uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and provide medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services typically include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can provide detoxification services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any complications are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
