People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being eradicated from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may carry risks if not performed in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehab facility which can effectively oversee and provide medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any problems are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
