People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will first go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can present detox services, the client will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to make certain that any issues are resolved as quickly and safely as possible.
