Facts

  • Medically assisted detoxification delivered as part of a drug rehab program is not in itself treatment but the first step in the drug rehab process.
  • When drug addicted individuals take part in drug rehab, they and society at large benefit from fewer interpersonal conflicts, greater workplace productivity, and fewer drug-related accidents, including overdoses and deaths.
  • When an individual stops consuming alcohol, alcohol level in their body can actually continue to increase. No amount of coffee, cold baths, showers, or trying to walk it off will stop this process.
  • The elderly are admitted to emergency departments and hospitals about as often for alcohol-related causes as for heart attacks.

Medicare - Sundance

Substance abuse and addiction affects every race, age and gender. For substance abusers that are 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug rehabilitation. Medicare insurance will pay for the treatment of drug addiction or alcoholism in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as certain requirements are met. The addict must obtain treatment from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The patient's doctor notes that the drug or alcohol treatment is medically necessary and that the patient's doctor provides a specific recommended treatment plan. Also, Medicare will only cover a maximum of 190 days in a mental health hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
