People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is often uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and provide medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can offer detox services, the person will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any issues are resolved as rapidly and safely as possible.
