Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drug addiction have the choice of going to a drug treatment facility that is specifically intended for gays or lesbians. Deciding to attend one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only address their issues with drugs and/or alcohol but also handle other emotional and personal problems they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
