Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may carry risks if not conducted in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehab facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for individuals who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services frequently include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as required to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can supply detox services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any difficulties are resolved as quickly and safely as possible.
