Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is simply the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can properly oversee and present medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug treatment facility which can present detoxification services, the individual will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any difficulties are resolved as swiftly and safely as possible.
