Facts

  • OxyContin is illegally diverted for abuse in several ways including pharmacy diversion, "doctor shopping," and improper prescribing practices by physicians.
  • Recent research indicates that if a group of men were given a meal and allowed to eat as much as they wanted, alcohol, rather than a non-alcoholic beverage, would increase the amount of food consumed.
  • A fever associated with drug withdrawal can occur among people who have been addicted to various substances, or even after a period of intense substance use. Fever symptoms may range from mild to severe.
  • The psilocybin and psilocin in magic mushrooms can also be produced synthetically in labs, but law enforcement does not indicate that this is occurring.

Aurora, Oregon - Medicare

Drug addiction affects every race, age and gender. For substance abusers that are 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug rehabilitation. Medicare insurance will pay for the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as certain requirements are met. The addict must obtain services from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The drug addicted person's doctor recommends that the drug or alcohol treatment is medically necessary and that the patient's doctor provides a specific recommended treatment plan. Additionally, Medicare will only cover a total of 190 days in a mental health hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
