Individuals who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may carry risks if not conducted in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug treatment facility which can properly oversee and present medical supervision for individuals who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services typically include insuring the individual is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and making certain the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detoxification services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any complications are handled as quickly and safely as possible.
