People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and provide medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the individual is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and making certain the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can provide detox services, the individual will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any difficulties are fixed as rapidly and safely as possible.
