Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can appropriately oversee and provide medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services generally include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any complications are fixed as swiftly and safely as possible.
