People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being eradicated from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not conducted in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services often include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and making certain the individual is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can present detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any problems are resolved as quickly and safely as possible.
