Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and present medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can provide detox services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make certain that any problems are resolved as swiftly and safely as possible.
