People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can correctly oversee and present medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the individual is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the person is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any issues are resolved as swiftly and safely as possible.
