Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can effectively oversee and provide medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as wanted to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The individual in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the individual will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any complications are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
