Facts

  • The Drug Abuse Warning Network lists opiates among the four most frequently mentioned drugs reported in drug-related death cases.
  • Many parents are unaware of the fact that their adolescent child may be abusing prescription drugs, and may frequently leave unused prescription drugs in open medicine cabinets which can lead to youth prescription drug abuse.
  • Parents, youth and the general population in the U.S. tend to assume that prescription drugs are less dangerous when abused than illegal drugs due to that fact that they are FDA-approved.
  • Severe depression and dysphoria can occur as part of Dexedrine withdrawal, which is basically the opposite of the drug's effects, and are the most dangerous emotional Dexedrine withdrawal symptoms.

Medicare - Daly City

Drug addiction affects every age, race and gender. For drug addicted people 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug treatment. Medicare insurance may cover the treatment of drug addiction or alcoholism in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as certain requirements are met. The addict must obtain services from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The patient's doctor notes that the services requested are medically necessary and that the patient's doctor provides a specific recommended treatment plan. Also, Medicare will only cover a maximum of 190 days in a psychiatric hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
