Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drug addiction have the option of attending a drug treatment center that is specially designed for them. Deciding to enroll into one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only deal with their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also address other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment examine how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
