People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services frequently include insuring the individual is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can present detox services, the individual will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any problems are handled as swiftly and safely as possible.
