Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will initially go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may hold risks if not conducted in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can properly oversee and present medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can present detoxification services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any problems are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
