Facts

  • Methamphetamine withdrawal can be more pronounced, painful, and longer lasting than withdrawal from cocaine or amphetamine.
  • Slang terms for cocaine which are commonly used are coke, snow, flake, and blow.
  • Withdrawal from benzodiazepines or alcohol may result in seizures or even coma if not handled in an in-patient setting.
  • When receiving treatment for HIV, individuals who consume alcohol may have difficulty following the difficult medications regimen in place to treat the disease, all factors which increase the likelihood that an infected person will infect others or will go on to develop AIDS.

Foster - Medicare

Substance abuse and addiction affects every age, race and gender. For drug addicted people 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug treatment. Medicare insurance will cover the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as certain requirements are met. The addict must receive treatment from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The patient's doctor notes that the services requested are medically necessary and that the patient's doctor provides a specific recommended treatment plan. Also, Medicare will only cover a total of 190 days in a mental health hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
