People who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may carry risks if not conducted in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehabilitation facility which can appropriately oversee and present medical supervision for persons who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services usually include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as needed to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to guarantee that any difficulties are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
