Facts
- Methadone used in opiate maintenance therapy was originally developed to help obliterate withdrawal symptoms and support a healthy lifestyle. However, the effects of withdrawal far exceed that of heroin which causes the individual to become addicted to it instead.
- Sudden cessation of chronic and extensive alcohol use will very likely produce withdrawal symptoms, including severe anxiety, tremors, hallucinations and convulsions.
- The National Household Survey on Drug Abuse estimated that 6,222,000 Americans aged 12 and older have used crack at least once in their lifetime.
- Older children of alcoholics are more likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety such as staying in their rooms for long periods of time and not relating to other children, claiming they "have no one to talk to."
DUI/DWI Offenders - InvernessDrinking and driving, or driving while under the influence are severe offenses not to be taken lightly. While each state has its own way of handling DUI/DWI offenders, there are some generalities that can be expected. Depending on the level of the driver's intoxication and how strict the state laws are, they may have to serve time in jail for their offense. Once this is accomplished they will likely have additional retribution to do in order to drive a vehicle again. Many states require the person to go through counseling and/or therapy to aid in their recovery process. Usually these counseling sessions are held in a group setting by either a substance abuse counselor or a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. The state will require a set number of counseling hours that the DUI/DWI offender will need to attend.
