Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will first go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the process of the drug being eradicated from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehab facility which can properly oversee and supply medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services generally include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, supplying proper nutrition and making certain the person is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detox services, the client will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any difficulties are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
