Facts

  • PCP users who have received toxic doses of the drug often must be restrained and receive tranquilizers to calm them down.
  • Most anabolic steroids found in the U.S. are smuggled in from other countries and then illegally diverted from pharmacies in the United States, or further synthesized in clandestine laboratories.
  • When receiving treatment for HIV, individuals who consume alcohol may have difficulty following the difficult medications regimen in place to treat the disease, all factors which increase the likelihood that an infected person will infect others or will go on to develop AIDS.
  • Inhalants, which are commonly abused, are air fresheners, markers, glue, fingernail polish, and many common household cleaners.

Kent - Medicare

Drug addiction affects every age, race and gender. For substance abusers that are 65 years or older, Medicare is an option to pay for some if not all of their drug rehabilitation. Medicare insurance will pay for the treatment of drug addiction or alcoholism in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as long as a few key points are addressed. The addict must receive services from a Medicare-participating facility or provider. The drug addicted person's doctor states that the drug or alcohol treatment is medically necessary and that the patient's doctor creates the plan of treatment to be carried out. Also, Medicare will only cover a maximum of 190 days in a psychiatric hospital for the individual's entire lifetime.
