Individuals who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may carry risks if not performed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can properly oversee and provide medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the individual is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the individual will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any complications are resolved as swiftly and safely as possible.
