Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not executed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and supply medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services typically include insuring the client is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as required to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some kind of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can offer detoxification services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make certain that any problems are handled as quickly and safely as possible.
