Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as necessary. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can adequately oversee and present medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services often include insuring the person is as relaxed as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and making certain the individual is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some variety of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detox services, the person will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any complications are resolved as rapidly and safely as possible.
