Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drug abuse have the option of going to a drug rehabilitation facility that is specially designed for gays or lesbians. Making the decision to go to one of these programs is a great first step towards recovery. During rehabilitation recovering addicts not only address their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal issues they are struggling with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with isolation, shame, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once treatment is complete they will be able to feel more secure about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
