Although each state has its own way of dealing with DUI/DWI offenders, there are some generalities that can be expected. Depending on the level of the driver's intoxication and how strict the state laws are, they may have to serve a jail sentence for their offense. Typically these counseling sessions are held in a group setting by either a substance abuse counselor or a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
