Gays and lesbians who develop problems with drugs and alcohol have the choice of attending a drug rehabilitation facility that is specially designed for gays or lesbians. Choosing to enroll into one of these programs is a very good first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only deal with their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also handle other emotional and personal issues they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in treatment take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy aids in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, discomfort in one's own skin, feelings of rejection, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
