Gays and lesbians who are having problems with drugs and alcohol have the option of attending a drug treatment center that is specially intended for them. Making the decision to go to one of these programs is an excellent first step towards recovery. While in treatment recovering addicts not only address their problems with drugs and/or alcohol but also work on other emotional and personal problems they are having difficulties with. Gays and Lesbians in recovery take a closer look at how their destructive behavior was a result of inner feelings left unresolved. Counseling and/or therapy helps in resolving issues with shame, Isolation, feelings of rejection, discomfort in one's own skin, etc. Once rehabilitation is complete they will be able to feel stronger about who they are and know that drugs and alcohol is not the solution.
