Detoxification is simply the process of the drug being removed from one's system, which is often uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug rehab facility which can adequately oversee and present medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services generally include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, delivering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is getting proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehab facility which can offer detoxification services, the client will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to ensure that any problems are handled as swiftly and safely as possible.
