Men and women who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will initially go through detoxification before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is basically the procedure of the drug being eradicated from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehab facility which can adequately oversee and provide medical supervision for people who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services usually include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is receiving proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detox process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some type of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detox facility or drug rehabilitation facility which can offer detox services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any complications are handled as swiftly and safely as possible.
