People who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want assistance will first go through detoxification before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detoxification is simply the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is typically uncomfortable and may carry risks if not carried out in a setting which can supply appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detoxification services are provided at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug treatment facility which can effectively oversee and provide medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detox services typically include insuring the client is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and ensuring the person is receiving proper rest, and providing supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug rehab facility which can present detoxification services, the person will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any difficulties are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
