Individuals who are physically reliant to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before receiving other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the procedure of the drug being removed from one's system, which is generally uncomfortable and may hold risks if not conducted in a setting which can provide appropriate support and medical intervention as needed. Detox services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detoxification facility or a drug treatment facility which can appropriately oversee and provide medical supervision for individuals who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services generally include insuring the individual is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, providing proper nutrition and ensuring the individual is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as needed to make the detoxification process as smooth and safe as possible. The person in detoxification will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some form of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detoxification services, the client will have detoxification staff at their disposal around the clock to make sure that any complications are fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
