Facts

  • Nearly 8% of all yearly ER visits for illness or injuries are associated with alcohol.
  • One ounce of alcohol has the same amount of calories as a baked potato or a glass of milk.
  • Proponents of methadone maintenance often state that patients receiving treatment are "dependent" on the medication, not "addicted".
  • Only heroin, which is almost identical in terms of chemical structure to morphine, can be closely compared when considering dependence liability.

Pittsburgh - DUI/DWI Offenders

Drinking and driving, or driving while under the influence are severe offenses not to be taken lightly. Although each state has its own way of handling DUI/DWI offenders, there are some generalities that can be expected. Depending on the severity of the driver's intoxication and how stringent the state laws are, they may have to serve a jail sentence for their offense. Once this is completed they will likely have further retribution to do in order to drive a vehicle again. Many states require the person to undergo counseling and/or therapy to help in their recovery process. Usually these counseling sessions are held in a group setting by either an addiction recovery professional or a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. The state will determine a set number of therapy hours that the DUI/DWI offender will need to attend.
