Men and women who are physically dependent to drugs or alcohol and want help will first go through detox before getting other treatment services in drug rehab. Detox is basically the process of the drug being eliminated from one's system, which is usually uncomfortable and may hold risks if not performed in a setting which can offer appropriate support and medical intervention as required. Detoxification services are offered at either a professional drug or alcohol detox facility or a drug rehab facility which can correctly oversee and provide medical supervision for men and women who are just coming off of drugs. Detoxification services usually include insuring the person is as comfortable as possible while detoxing and going through drug or alcohol withdrawal, offering proper nutrition and making certain the individual is getting proper rest, and supplying supplements and medicine as necessary to make the detox process as easy and safe as possible. The person in detox will sometimes be encouraged to take part in some sort of physical activity such as walking, yoga, etc. At a drug detoxification facility or drug treatment facility which can provide detoxification services, the client will have detox staff at their disposal around the clock to assure that any problems are handled as rapidly and safely as possible.
